You may live off the beaten track from some bigger towns or cities, sometimes smaller villages do not have great transport links.

Should I Drive Automatic or Manual?
Many people are put off by gear shifts, lots of people now opt to learn to drive in automatic cars. Automatic cars can be more convenient and often have good fuel efficiency compared to manual cars. However you need to be aware that if you learn to drive an automatic car you would not be able to drive a manual car.
Manual cars can be challenging at first when you are learning to drive as there is more to think about, however after a few lessons it becomes easier and a bit like riding a bike once you have mastered it, it becomes second nature.
There is no right or wrong in what you decide to learn to drive in, just remember it is about what makes you comfortable and at ease. If you are confident when driving, you will have a greater chance of passing.
How To Achieve Test Standard
It has been recorded that it can take around thirty to forty hours of lessons and the common choice for most people learning to drive is to take a minimum of two lessons per week, most people can achieve this in or around two to three months to achieve the test standard level of driving. Your driving instructor will often advise you when he feels that you are ready to take your driving test. Once you are ready you can book your official DVSA car Practical Driving Test online with GOV UK.
What Happens On The Day Of The Driving Test
When it is your test day we would recommend that you book a pre-test lesson. Nearly all tests will be taken at your local testing centre, The driving test will include 5 parts which on average take around 40 minutes, this is the same for both manual and automatic cars.
Before you start the test, the examiner will often ask you to read a number plate from 20 metres, so if you do wear glasses we would recommend that you have them available. The examiner will then ask a couple of questions around vehicle safety, don’t panic this is the same for everyone. They will then carry out an assessment of your general driving on the roads, this will also include reversing exercises and either sat nav or traffic signs assessment.
At the end of the 40 minutes the instructor will let you know if you have passed or failed, if it is a failure don’t be defeated try again many people pass second time around and pass with flying colours! If it is a pass now you can apply for your full driving licence and enjoy the next part of your driving journey.
